One of Dewalt’s latest products is the DCD996 18V XRP Hammer Drill Driver and along with the DCD991 is part of the XRT or Extreme Run Time series. Dewalt has aimed this range – the DCD991 and the DCD996 at the professional and high-end home user market. The drills are design for wood, metal and concrete, they have an all metal chuck and a new electronic clutch.
The DCD996 is the hammer drill version of the DCD991. It features an even more efficient motor and improved airflow to allow it to run at much lower temperatures. Like the DCD991 the DCD996 Drill Driver also delivers 19% more torque than the previous models and it has 3 speed settings.
Without the battery, the DCD996 only weighs very slightly more than the DCD991, just 1.6kg. Again this is a pricey piece of kit – but the quality and reliability might well be worth the price!
